Puerto Azul surf guide

Puerto Azul is a surf spot located in front of the private Puerto Azul club. It features a right-hand wave that peels nicely off the jetty at the mouth of the Rio Naiguatá. When the conditions align, surfers can enjoy some long rides over the sandbar, making it worthwhile for those who find it on form.

The optimal swell direction here is from the Northeast, but it can also handle swells coming from the North and East. The waves work best with swell sizes starting at about 2 feet (0.6 meters). The waves break over a sandy bottom, and they generally move to the right. For the best results, surfers should look for South winds and can ride the tide at low, mid, or high levels. This spot is suitable for intermediate surfers, providing a fun challenge without being too overwhelming.

Puerto Azul tends to be less crowded compared to other spots, allowing surfers to enjoy the waves without too much competition. It's good to check the conditions before heading out, as the quality can vary.
