Overview
Puerto Cayo is a consistent beach break peeling both left and right over sand. It picks up just about any swell, so there's usually something to ride, and it holds its shape well when the surf jumps to overhead.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through north (S-N), but it really comes alive on a moderate northwest (NW) swell. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, covering everything from small, playful days to solid overhead sessions. Because it's a reliable performer, you've got a decent chance of finding waves whenever you turn up. Mornings are the pick, when glassy conditions clean up the peaks.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to groom the faces. The break works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. The peaks can turn sucky at low tide, so keep that in mind when the water drops.
Local Tips
This one suits beginners, with forgiving, approachable waves. There's a local crew in the water but not much crowd pressure, so expect a fairly quiet lineup most of the time.

Parking is simple and free, right on the beach with roadside spots close by.
