Overview
Pui Puy is a long stretch of beachbreak with several peaks spread along the sand, offering both lefts and rights. It sits out on the Peninsula de Paria, part of a run of breaks east of Rio Caribe, and the mellow, forgiving waves make it a good fit for beginners.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from the northeast through east, with northeast the best direction to line up the peaks. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, so there's a wide window between too small and too big. Breaking over sand, it's moderately consistent, and with several peaks to spread out along you can usually find a bank to yourself.
Wind and Tide
Look for south offshore wind to clean up the faces. The beach can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an approachable, beginner-friendly beachbreak, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet even when it's working.
Access
Pui Puy is about 20 minutes on from the reefs at Chaguarama, which are themselves roughly 10 minutes from Rio Caribe. A 4WD is advised to reach most of the beaches around here. There's free roadside parking once you arrive.
