Overview
Punta Canoas is a point setup on the Northern Baja coast, and one of the last spots in the region able to pick up direct southwest swell. Much of Bahia Sebastian Vizcaino sits shielded from southerly swell by Punta Eugenia and Cedros Island, but Punta Canoas stays open to it, feeding a series of points with plenty of potential rights. You'll find waves on the Point, at Puerto Canoas, and just east at Alan's Right, and they can get fast and hollow.
When It Works
The rights break over an uneven reef and draw swell from southwest through north (SW-N), with southwest the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and tends to be moderately consistent.
Wind and Tide
An outside reef and high cliffs offer good wind protection, and the spot wants northeast offshore wind. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The rights suit intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
