Punta de Bombón surf guide

Punta de Bombón is a surf spot that’s overlooked by a massive statue of Christ, giving it a pretty unique backdrop. This beach break can be a solid option for surfers, especially during the summer months. It’s located right next to the Rio Tambo rivermouth, which helps create some nice sandbanks. This place can max out in the winter but is mainly known for those summer swells. It's not the most famous spot around, but it definitely has its moments.

The surf here handles swells that range from 2ft (0.6m) and up, making it decent for both beginners and seasoned surfers. The best swells come from the West and South, and you’ll catch waves breaking over sand. You can find some fun lefts and rights out there, especially when the wind is blowing from the Northeast. When it comes to tides, all levels—from low to high—work well, so you'll have plenty of options throughout the day. Beginners can easily ride the whitewash since this beach offers some straightforward spots to practice. More experienced surfers might enjoy chasing some A-frames out the back before the afternoon wind kicks in.

Keep in mind that Punta de Bombón is prone to strong longshore drift, so make sure to keep an eye on your position in the water. Overall, it's a spot worth checking out if you're nearby, especially in the summer when conditions can be friendlier.
