Punta Galera is a left-hand point that breaks over a mix of uneven reef and sand. It plays like a slower version of nearby Suspiro and Mompiche, with plenty of sections that tend to wander and can be all over the place without ever linking up into one clean wall.
When It Works
Mornings are the time to check, especially when a northwest or strong west swell fills in. The point draws swell from the west through northwest (W-NW), and it comes together best on a northwest (NW) swell. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, though it can be somewhat inconsistent, so it pays to check it when the setup lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for south (S) offshore wind to clean things up. The point can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers comfortable reading a shifting, sectiony point. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
Access
There's free roadside parking near the point. The access is a bit of a slog, which helps keep the crowds down.
