Overview
Punta Left, also known as Big Star, is a treacherous left-hand reefbreak that breaks over an uneven reef. Booties are essential here.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from north through northeast, with a northeast (NE) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and will hold any big N-NE swell that comes through. Consistency is on the lower side, so it can take some patience to catch it firing.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave, so it rewards surfers who already know how to read a shallow reef. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it comes together.
Access
Punta Left is about a 10-minute ride, or 4 km (3 mi), up a bumpy road.
