Queen's Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Queen's sits right in the heart of Waikiki, a reef break that peels over lava, rock, and coral. On small to medium days a single A-frame peak splits fairly evenly into a fun but shorter left and a longer right. When a bigger swell fills in, it reshapes into a long left, one of the best on the South Shore, backed by a shorter right. It can barrel on occasion, but most of the time you get an easy, rippable face.

When It Works

Queen's draws swell from south to west-southwest, and it usually comes together best on south to southwest swell. It is usable from 1.5 m / 5 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. The season runs through spring, summer, and autumn, roughly April to October. This is a good, dependable wave that stays mellow and user-friendly most of the time, then turns into one of the South Shore's standouts when a solid swell lines up, favoring the left with a shorter right on offer.

Wind and Tide

Look for offshore wind from the north-northeast (NNE), with a workable wind window stretching from north-northwest through north to east. The reef can work across low, mid, and high tide, though a rising tide is generally the better call.

Local Tips

This wave suits intermediate and expert surfers, and it takes just about anything under your feet, from shortboards and fish to funboards, longboards, and bodyboards. Expect a very busy lineup whenever it is working, with a neutral atmosphere in the water.

Access

Getting in is easy, with parking in or near Kuhio Beach Park. The paddle out and back to the beach is long, but it settles down once you are out in the lineup.
