Quintanilla - Gran Canaria surf guide

Quintanilla is a surf spot located on the north coast of Gran Canaria. It’s not the most famous spot, but it’s worth checking out, especially when the usual spots are way too crowded. The left-hand wave is often overlooked, making it a good option for those looking to avoid the crowds. The scenery here is pretty stunning, with a beautiful beach and a volcanic mountain sitting right behind it, creating a unique vibe.

The waves at Quintanilla work best when the swell is coming from the west, but it can also handle swells from the north. It generally performs well in sizes of around 5 ft. (1.5 meters). The left-breaking waves can be steep and fast, providing some performance walls, but it’s a spot that suits intermediate surfers best. When it comes to the wind, a south direction is preferred, and mid to high tides work best for getting good waves. Just a heads-up, the breaks occur over boulders and sand, so be careful when you’re out there.

On a good day, you’ll find that Quintanilla is rarely crowded, giving you plenty of room to catch some waves. While there are some hazards like urchins and rocks, you don’t have to worry too much about locals being aggressive. If you’re into exploring, check out Playa de San Andres just a little west of here for another potential surf option. Overall, it's a solid spot for those who know what they're doing.
