Overview
Rat Shit is a fun reef peak that breaks both left and right over a mix of rock ledge and sand. It suits intermediate surfers looking for a peak with a bit of shape.
When It Works
The reef fires mainly in winter. It draws swell from the southwest through to the northwest, with a west swell the best match, though it also picks up northwest swells well. Expect it to be usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Consistency is moderate, so it won't turn on every day, but the right winter swell brings it to life.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind to clean up the faces. The peak favors low tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly wave, but expect a very busy lineup when it's on.
