Overview
Rio Sierpe Rivermouth is a remote river mouth break that peels long, powerful lefts and rights over sand. Reaching it means flying, driving, or catching a boat to Drake's Bay, and from there the wave is accessible by boat only. The surroundings are genuinely wild, and crocodiles and sharks are a real possibility, so treat the spot with respect.
When It Works
The wave pulls swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with southwest (SW) the best direction. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, giving you a wide window between too small and too big. Consistency is moderate, so you may need to time your session, but when it lines up those long walls run cleanly both ways.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to hold the wave open. It breaks on mid and high tide, and a rising tide is the better call, with the spot capable of turning excellent as the water pushes in.
Local Tips
Rio Sierpe suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet when it works.
Access
Getting here is the real commitment: fly, drive, or take a boat to Drake's Bay, then reach the break itself by boat. Parking in the area is restricted.
