Rosarito is a sand-bottomed beachbreak with waves on offer year-round, backed up by nearby reefs and rivermouths. Pollution and the nearby nuclear power plant are worth keeping in mind in the water. Once a busy party town, it has quietened down as cartel activity ended the parties and safety fears thinned the tourist numbers.
When It Works
The beachbreak around the pier stays very consistent, even on weaker south-to-northwest swells. It draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with south the best match, and peels both left and right. The break works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east offshore wind. The waves work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.

You'll find a surf shop and camping close by. Parking is easy, with a free car park alongside paid and roadside options.
