Overview
S-Turns is a cluster of lava and coral reefs tucked between Honokowai and Kahana. It throws up some nice peaks even in less than perfect conditions, and it sits away from the heavy crowds of the better-known spots nearby. The uneven reef serves up both lefts and rights.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from anywhere between northwest and northeast, and it lines up best on a northwest (NW) direction. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, so there is a wide window to catch it. Expect it to break moderately often rather than every session.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind to clean up the peaks. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a spot for intermediate surfers comfortable reading an uneven reef. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
