Sabang Beach is the most popular surf spot in Baler, a soft sand beachbreak right in front of Bay's Inn at the south end of a 10 km (6 mi) crescent beach where a rocky peninsula meets the sea. Several resorts line the gray sand here, including Angara's Beach House, Bay's Inn Resort, and MIA Surf and Sports. The beach shelves anywhere from gently to steeply, so waves tend to close out quickly, but the mellow peaks in front of Bay's Inn give newer surfers plenty of forgiving waves to work with.
When It Works
The break picks up swell from north to east (N-E), with northeast (NE) the best direction. It works over sand from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft, peeling into both lefts and rights.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind. The beachbreak can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, who take on the soft beachbreak while more experienced surfers practice in the dumpier sections. It would make a decent longboard spot, though most of the locals ride beat-up shortboards.
