Salamumu surf guide

Salamumu is located on the western coast of Upolu, Samoa. It's a quieter spot compared to the more crowded areas on the island. The waves here can vary based on the swell direction, which influences whether you’ll find rights or lefts breaking over the reef. The location is in front of the Sa’Moana Resort, giving it a nice backdrop, and there's also a decent left that peels down the reef near the village.

This spot works best with southeast swells but can handle south-southwest swells too. The optimal wave size is around 2 feet (0.6 meters) but it can handle bigger conditions. The waves break over live coral, so be mindful when you're paddling out. The wave types here are mostly reef breaks, and they tend to run left. For the best conditions, you want the wind from the north and mid to high tide is preferable. It's definitely an intermediate spot, so it's not the best for beginners.

Typically, you'll find mostly surfers from the nearby camp at Salamumu, which helps keep it a bit more relaxed than some of the busier breaks on the island. If you're looking for a place to surf that's not swamped with crowds, this might be a good option.
