Salani Right surf guide

Salani Right, located near Salani Village in Samoa, is one of the country's most popular surf spots, known for its user-friendly waves. This surf spot is accessible via a 20-minute paddle or a quick 5-minute boat ride. The spot has a laid-back vibe, primarily attracting surf tourists, and there's no local crowd to worry about. It’s a great place for surfers looking to experience a reliable wave without the pressure of a competitive lineup.

This wave generally works best with south swells and can handle a variety of swell directions, including southeast and southwest. It can deliver rides from a mellow 2 feet (0.6 meters) up to a hefty 10 feet (3 meters). The wave breaks over live coral and is primarily a right-hand reef break. It features different take-off sections, though it's relatively short, offering mechanical perfection when the conditions align. The best wind direction is from the north, and it can work on low, mid, and high tides, but lower tides tend to be preferable. While it suits intermediate surfers, more experienced riders will fare better on bigger days.

The wave is known for its high performance and can barrel nicely, making it a popular choice among shortboarders. Keep in mind that the surf quality can fluctuate, so it needs the right swell and wind to really shine. The wave might bounce off the reef, so paddling with caution is advisable. Overall, Salani Right has its pros and cons but can be a fun wave when the conditions are in your favor.

Wind certainty

Wind certainty tells you how much the weather models agree on the forecast.

  • High certainty: Models agree closely; forecast is reliable.
  • Medium certainty: Some disagreement; conditions may shift slightly.
  • Low certainty: Models diverge; treat forecast with caution.

We calculate this by comparing wind speed, gust and direction from multiple models (like GFS, ECMWF, Arome, and Harmonie) and seeing how closely they match. They are weighted, meaning that some models count more than others, depending on how good they are for a certain spot.

Forecast Cheat Sheet

Short on time? Focus on wave energy. It’s the best single metric to gauge how big and powerful the waves will be.

Click any table cell to jump to that forecast hour. The map will update with forecast arrows, so you can see if wind and swell direction are lining up.

Use the table sidebar to switch units for height and speed.

Log your surf sessions to compare forecasts with real sessions and sharpen future predictions.

Models and Updates

Surfnerd blends multiple global and local wind and swell models using advanced interpolation and spatial techniques to create an "ensemble" forecast. Forecasts are refreshed hourly.

Surf Predictions

Our AI-driven algorithm scores surf quality, shown by green, orange, and gray dots. Each forecast hour is rated for wind, swell, and tide quality, then combined into an overall score. Here’s the scale:

Perfect
Good
Average
Bad or No Data

Session logs also feed the algorithm — the more you log, the smarter your forecasts get.
