Overview
San Juan de Alima sits just over the state border into Michoacan, where a beach break peels both left and right over sand. The standout is Punta la Playa, a long right point sheltered from the afternoon seabreezes, and when the point isn't firing there are plenty of beachbreaks out in front of town to fall back on. A little to the southeast you'll find three reefs with easy channels and the fun peaks at Las Brisas.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with northwest swell the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft and stays a consistent option through the season. The right point needs a big southwest-to-west swell to really switch on, but even then it holds up reliably.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind. The break works through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
It's an approachable, beginner-friendly wave, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet.
