Sandbar NSW is a quality beachbreak that holds its form across a wide range of conditions, with the best banks usually found just below Dangar Point. When the sandbar is open to Smiths Lake, sandbanks and channels form down the beach.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), with southeast (SE) the best match. A southeast swell tends to throw up wedging peaks, while a northeast swell favours left runners, and both lefts and rights are on offer. It stays consistent through the year and works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind, though any northerly keeps the banks clean. It breaks across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The gentle beachbreak makes it an approachable option for beginners. Expect a busy lineup when it's firing, especially on weekends.
Access
Camping sits in the bush behind the beach and by the lake, and you'll find a car park with free parking as well as roadside parking.
