Sanshuei is one of the picture-perfect beaches out on the Penghu Islands, a scattering of 64 tiny islands that's an easy flight to reach. It's very much a summer spot.
When It Works
The beach break draws swell from southwest to southeast, with a southwest swell the best match. Breaking over sand, it throws up both lefts and rights and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Waves are somewhat inconsistent here, with the occasional southeast-to-southwest pulse arriving through summer.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north offshore wind. It works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide the better call. Keep in mind that a larger tidal range trims how much good surf time you get.
Local Tips
Sanshuei is a friendly spot for beginners, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
