Overview
São Jorge is a remote left-hand point that breaks over boulders, and one of the least-surfed waves around. A very long drive from other spots means it rarely gets checked, and only a handful of locals have ever ridden it. Those who have say it can get quite good.
When It Works
The point picks up swell from northwest through northeast, with northwest (NW) the best direction. It works from 1.8 m / 6 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, so it needs a solid swell before it comes to life, and it's somewhat inconsistent even then.
Wind and Tide
Look for south (S) wind, which blows offshore here. The wave can work through low, mid, and high tide, though a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is expert-only surfing. Expect a quiet lineup on the rare days it's working.
Access
Getting to the spot is difficult, so plan for that. There's free parking once you arrive.
