São Pedro do Moel is the best-known wave along the almost untouched stretch of coast running 80km from Figueira da Foz down to Nazaré. This is a consistent, exposed beach break sitting among long open beaches broken up by the odd headland and cove, and it holds plenty of summertime potential.
When It Works
The break works over sand and throws up both lefts and rights. It draws swell from anywhere between southwest and north (SW-N), but west swell is the direction to look for. The working size range runs from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, so there's room for it to come to life on small summer days and hold together when the swell fills in.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind to groom the faces. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The beach break suits beginners, making it an easy place to find a wave and get going.
Access
There are showers and a lifeguard on hand, and camping is available. Free camping in the surrounding forest shouldn't be a problem either.
