Seal Beach Jetty Surf Forecast Guide

Seal Beach Jetty breaks over sand as a mix of beach, pier, and jetty peaks, offering both rights and lefts. It's very swell-dependent, ranging from forgettable to genuinely good, and the pier takes the bigger, walled-up surf from Huntington Pier up the coast and grooms it into snappier, more rideable peaks. The most consistent zone sits on the north side of the pier.

When It Works

It draws swell from south-southeast through south to west-northwest (SSE-S-WNW), and it's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. West swells are pickier, coming into their own on mid and long-period energy of 16 seconds or more. The spot can work across spring, summer, autumn, and winter, and fall can be especially good.

Wind and Tide

The workable wind window runs from north-northwest through north to east (NNW-N-E), with northeast (NE) the offshore direction and glassy mornings or northeast Santa Ana winds the pick. Because the coastline faces south and the jetties offer protection, it can be one of the cleaner spots around when the wind blows hard from the northwest. It works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

There's room for just about every board here, from shortboards, fish, and funboards to longboards, skimboards, bodyboards, and bodysurfing, and it suits everyone from beginners to experts depending on the day. Expect a busy lineup, usually filled with beginners and longboarders, or sharper surfers when it's on. Watch for stingrays on the bottom, so shuffle your feet, and note the warmer water here fed by the inland Edison plant.

Access

Off PCH, head down Main Street into Seal Beach, where parking runs about $5 a day, with free one-hour spots on the side streets.
