Seal Beach Pier is an average beachbreak that serves up peaks on both sides of the pier, at the foot of Main Street in Seal Beach. It doesn't have the shape of the peak at 13th Street, and it can't hold anywhere near the same size. Each summer the beach hosts a huge annual sandcastle building contest.
When It Works
The spot draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with southwest the best match. It breaks over sand and offers both lefts and rights, and it's moderately consistent when the swell lines up. The peaks are usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. When it gets big, watch out for currents.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind. It can work across most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-level peak, and the lineup tends to get busy when it's on.
Access
There are restrooms and a surf shop on hand, plus a car park with free parking.
