Overview
Secret Spot, also known as Secret Beach, breaks in a bay with both lefts and rights over an uneven reef. When it lines up it throws performance walls that are short on length but hold plenty of power. It sits on a stretch where the north side of the peninsula can be blown out while the south side stays clean and offshore, helped by noticeably lighter winds.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest through northwest, with southwest (SW) the best match, and the walls really fire on south, southwest, west, and big northwest swells. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Consistency is moderate, so this isn't the most reliable wave on the stretch, but it delivers when the setup lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave should be manageable for most surfers, including beginners, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet. Pick your waves carefully, though: the reef is carpeted in sea urchins, and a wipeout carries a real chance of hitting the bottom.
