Sengigi is a circular reef break that runs mainly as a left, with a sectiony right that only comes to life on the rare north wind. The wave peels over live coral and suits intermediate surfers.
When It Works
Sengigi draws its swell from south to southwest, with southwest the direction that lights it up best. When enough SW swell teams up with the tide to clear the coral, it fires off some cylindrical lefts, though it spends most days sitting below the chest-high minimum it needs to break. It tends to be somewhat inconsistent, and it works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east offshore wind to groom the faces. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Plenty of locals surf here, so expect a busy lineup when it's on. It rewards intermediate surfers, and since the sectiony right needs a rare north wind, most sessions come down to the left.
