Overview
Shipwreck is a tubular beach break at Palmeirinhas that breaks over sand and peels both left and right. The freighter that once marked the spot is now gone, so pinning down the exact takeoff can be guesswork without someone who knows it.
When It Works
Shipwreck picks up plenty of swell and breaks consistently. It draws swell from south through west, with south swell the best match, and works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. The break is very exposed to the wind, so get on it early: it tends to blow out by 10 am. If the swell climbs past 6 ft, head to a more sheltered spot.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind to clean it up. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
