Shipwrecks/Freighters is a right-hand point that peels long and mellow over boulders and sand. Its trademark is the beached ship sitting right in the line-up, which can cut those long rights short when you connect through. It suits improver and intermediate surfers, and there is plenty more to explore nearby, with point, reef and beachbreak options all within reach.
When It Works
The point comes alive on a wrapping northwest swell, and northwest (NW) is the direction to look for. It draws swell across a wide window, from south through west-southwest to northwest, and holds some size, working from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. Expect moderately consistent surf, so it pays to catch it when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Wind protection from the north is good here, and the cleanest conditions come with a northeast (NE) offshore. It breaks through low, mid and high tide, so you have room to time your session, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Expect a busy line-up when it works, with much of the crowd coming from the nearby surf camp. If you want more space, there are some excellent reef options in the area to slip away from the pack.
Access
There is camping on hand, and parking is free, both in a lot and along the roadside.
