Siouville Surf Forecast Guide

Siouville is the pick of a long, westerly-facing beach on France's fickle Channel coastline, still open to the consistent Atlantic swells. It's a huge arc of sand with a big tidal range, mostly a fun, beginner-friendly beach with loads of room to spread out on long, rolling waves. The setup needs fairly specific conditions to really turn on, but when bigger swells arrive the sheltered reef in the southern corner can get good, and the reef in the northern corner, Le Creque, produces quality walling right-handers. When it's grinding, locals rate it alongside Les Landes.

When It Works

The beach draws swell from southwest through northwest, with southwest (SW) swell the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it's at its best in autumn, roughly September through November, though it can produce year-round. Consistency is moderate. The sand bottom, with reefs to the north and south, throws up both lefts and rights. When it gets bigger the paddle out is hard and the rips can be dangerous.

Wind and Tide

Look for east (E) offshore wind, and the spot can hold a touch of south wind too. It's best from mid to high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is a forgiving beach that suits just about anything, from shortboards and fish to funboards, longboards, and bodyboards, making it a good option for beginners. Expect a fairly quiet lineup that can feel a little reserved, and note it's often empty out in the middle of the bay, where the isolation adds to the risk when rips pick up.

Access

Reach it off the D4, where several parking areas sit close to the beach, including a car park with free parking alongside roadside spots. There are restrooms on hand, and plenty of good camping around the Cotentin peninsula.
