Skara Brae is a long, consistent left-hand point in the Orkney Islands, peeling over a rock ledge opposite Skail Bay. Reaching it means a short high-speed ferry from Gills Bay to Stromness on Mainland, where the waves break over slabs of slate and sedimentary rock. Its length and reliability are what set it apart.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southwest through north (SW-N), with southwest swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, so there's a wide window of sizes that will get it going.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind, but bring some patience: the wind out here is strong and near-constant, so lining up the east days you want takes waiting. The point breaks through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
