Overview
St-Girons Plage is a popular stretch of beachbreak with around 12km of sand to pick from, serving up waves that sit somewhere between Hossegor's barrels and more average beachbreak walls. It's a favourite of foreign surfers and naturists, with two large camping sites tucked into the forest. The German Surf Championships are regularly held here. One thing to know before you go: the DRT factory in town brings pollution problems, including foul smells and a waste outfall at the beach.
When It Works
The beach breaks over sand and offers both lefts and rights. It draws swell from west through north (W-N), with northwest (NW) the best match, and it's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Consistency is good, so there's usually something on offer.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind. The beach can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is intermediate-friendly terrain. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
Access
There's plenty on hand for a full day: restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, and a surf school, along with camping close by. Parking comes as a car park with free parking plus roadside spaces.
