Overview
Stimpy's is a left-hand reef break over live coral, and on overhead swells it turns into a ferocious, unpredictable barrel that wraps around the coral heads with board-breaking power. On smaller days it settles into mushy, fun walls and shoulders. It's very much an expert wave, but it's consistent enough that there's usually something to ride.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from north through east, with northeast (NE) the direction that lines it up best. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and rarely goes flat thanks to its consistency. The bigger, overhead days bring out the heavy barrel, while the smaller swells offer the more forgiving walls and shoulders.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to groom it. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on. This one is strictly for experts, and you'll want a longer board to make the drop. Bring plenty of water and sun protection for the boat, and since these outer reefs get invaded by stinging jellyfish, a long-sleeve rash vest is a smart move.
