Overview
Stonehaven has a good right-hand reef at the south end of the bay, breaking over a rock ledge, with a pebble and sand beachbreak alongside it. The rivermouth keeps the paddle out easy.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northeast through southeast (NE-SE), with northeast (NE) the best match. It comes alive in southeast swells and bigger northeast pulses, and works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Access
There's a car park with free parking by the beach plus roadside parking, and a caravan park nearby. Full facilities are on hand in town, including restrooms and camping.
