Overview
Stoner's Point is a classic right-hand pointbreak, the first proper point you reach past the resort town of San Blas and its weaker beachbreak at El Borrego. It breaks with more power and hollowness than the other breaks nearby, and it has held its reputation since Jeff Hakman and Jock Sutherland rode it on a perfect day in the film "Cosmic Children".
When It Works
The point peels right over a mix of uneven reef and sand. It draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with southwest swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, giving you a wide window of usable size to work with. Expect it to be moderately consistent, breaking often enough to be worth chasing without turning on every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind to clean up the point. It breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The power and hollow sections make this one for expert surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
Access
Getting here takes some effort. Paddle across the rivermouth from Playa Borrego, or reach it on foot or by 4x4 from Las Islitas. Parking nearby is restricted.
