Overview
Stuart Public Beach is an approachable beach break that peels both left and right over a sandy bottom. It's a decent, easygoing wave, and it tends to run a touch bigger than nearby Stuart Rocks, which makes it a handy fallback when you want something less demanding.
When It Works
It draws swell from north through east-northeast to southeast, with northeast (NE) swell the best match. The break is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and it comes into its own across spring, autumn, and winter. Bigger north swells tend to favour long lefts, which can turn hollow on the inside section.
Wind and Tide
Look for offshore wind from the west (W). It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, and it suits just about anything you paddle out on, from shortboards and fish to funboards, longboards, and bodyboards. The lineup stays fairly quiet and can feel a little reserved. Keep an eye on the currents and the inside reef, especially as the size picks up.
Access
Access is easy, with a car park offering free parking, though it's worth being mindful of break-ins. Restrooms, showers, a surf shop, and lifeguard cover are all on hand.
