Suicides - Central Mentawai surf guide

Suicides in Central Mentawai is known for its challenging left-hand reef break. Located close to other famous spots, it typically attracts more experienced surfers looking for something intense. The wave breaks over a live coral reef, which adds a layer of danger for those not familiar with the area. This spot does best with SouthWest and West swells, making it a popular choice for those in the know. Keep in mind, this isn’t a playground for beginners; it's a hardcore wave that's suited for expert surfers only.

This wave really comes alive with mid to high tides and can handle swell sizes around 4 feet (about 1.2 meters). For the best chances of scoring a great wave, look out for SouthEast winds, which help shape the surf. When conditions align, you’ll find that the lefts here can be hollow and fast, with some fun sections to ride. Just be prepared to deal with the shallow coral shelf, as it can catch you off guard.

Right next to Suicides, there’s another left-hander known as Twiggies, which can also attract some attention. The lineup can get crowded, so it's a good idea to be respectful and aware of other surfers while waiting for your turn. Overall, if you're looking to push your skills in a beautiful but challenging setting, Suicides can definitely deliver that experience.
