Sunabe Seawall surf guide

Sunabe Seawall is a popular surf spot located in Okinawa, Japan. It's known as the main surfing area in the region, featuring multiple reef breaks that attract surfers from all levels. The location is quite lively, especially on weekends, as it draws a good number of surfers looking to catch some waves.

When it comes to surfing, Sunabe Seawall handles swell sizes from around 2ft (0.6m) and is best with a NorthWest swell. The waves break over live coral and can be both left and right, offering a variety to surf on. The preferable tides to surf here are mid to high, especially when the swell is coming in strong. Be aware that many of the waves can turn into hard-breaking barrels during solid swells. The ideal wind direction is from the NorthEast, which sets up the conditions nicely.

This spot's environment can be challenging for beginners, as the surfing level tends to be intermediate and above. The crowds can get pretty intense on weekends, which adds to the atmosphere. Additionally, there are shallow rocks and strong rips in the channels, making it essential to be a confident surfer if you decide to paddle out. If youโ€™re looking for other options, heading south of the marina might provide more opportunities away from the crowds.
