Overview
Bowls is a coral reef break that throws both a left and a right, though the left is the standout. It's the better of the two and can offer a noticeably longer ride if you can get one to yourself. On its day it breaks as an incredible A-frame over live coral, and the outside reefs can occasionally turn on for something special.
When It Works
Bowls draws swell from southwest to north (SW-N) and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. It's moderately consistent, and the highest-quality days depend on a fairly rare setup, so the truly good sessions don't come around often. When the outside reefs light up, the surf can be excellent.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast (NE) offshore wind. The reef favours high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly reef, but it pulls a crowd. Expect a busy lineup when it's working, and the better left in particular tends to be a guaranteed scramble.
Access
There are restrooms at the spot, and parking is easy to sort, with a car park offering free parking alongside paid and roadside options.
