Overview
Sunshine Beach is a sand-bottom beach break where powerful peaks stack up in the lee of the northern headland, making it a dependable swell magnet. It throws both lefts and rights, and the nice holes and gutters along the bank help keep the close-outs in check.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from east through south, with a northeast (NE) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and tends to be moderately consistent, so you'll get worthwhile windows without it turning on every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind, though the peaks hold their shape reasonably well even in northeasterlies. It works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Sunshine Beach is friendly for beginners, and because the peaks spread surfers down the sand, the lineup stays manageable even when it's on. Expect a moderately busy crowd on a good day.
Access
Getting in is easy, with plenty of entry points running down through Sunrise and Castaways Beach. You'll find restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, camping, plus a surf school and surf shop. For parking there's a car park with free parking, paid options, and roadside spots.
