Overview
Surf Point sits at the southern tip of Dirk Hartog Island, a shallow reef that throws long right-hand barrels over live coral.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south through west, with a southwest (SW) swell the best match. It's usable from 1.5 m / 5 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, but the bigger the swell the more it closes out across a wide expanse of reef, which makes it hard to line up. Consistency is moderate, so it pays to catch it in the right window.
Wind and Tide
There's no wind protection at this end of the island, so it needs a northeast (NE) offshore and realistically only comes good on NE-wind days. It can break through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
Surf Point is an expert-only wave, and the lineup stays quiet when it does break.
Access
Getting out here is tricky, and the island channel runs very strong rips through sharky water, so it's strictly for hardcore surfers.
