Overview
Tanjung Kucur is a right-hand reef break on the protected, Bali Strait side. It breaks over uneven reef and, when it fires, serves up long rights. The surf camps cling to the edge of dense jungle that's home to panthers, monkeys and snakes, which sometimes wander into the camps for a late-night snack.
When It Works
Tucked away on the sheltered side, Tanjung Kucur needs a real pumping south swell to break. It draws swell from southwest through southeast (SW-SE), with south (S) the best match, and is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. It can be inconsistent, so scoring it takes some patience and the right pulse lining up.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind. Timing is the real challenge here: the southeast wind tends to fill in fast, so the window to catch it clean before it turns onshore is slim. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Tanjung Kucur suits intermediate surfers, and those long rights are the main reward. Expect a fairly quiet lineup.
Access
Reaching the break means a long jungle hike from G-Land, so plan for the walk in and back out.
