Overview
Tapi Point is a left-hand reef break that peels over live coral, and it serves up probably the longest waves on Efate. The trade-off is that the wave tends to be quite sectiony, so expect the ride to break up into pieces rather than run as one clean wall.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southeast through south to west (SE-S-W), with a southeast (SE) swell the best match. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, giving it a wide working range from small days up to solid overhead surf. Consistency is moderate, so it pays to keep an eye on the forecast and time your session for when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind to clean up the faces. The reef comes to life on mid and high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
Tapi Point suits intermediate surfers comfortable riding a left over live coral. The lineup stays fairly quiet, so you can usually find space to work into the long walls. If you want a change of direction, there is also a right on the island, about 700 m from Eratap resort.
