Tea Bags Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Tea Bags is a challenging right that freight trains down a fringing reef on Pulau Tapah, just off the southern coast of Simeulue. When the swell is up, it turns on properly. The reef underneath is live coral, so it demands respect.

It is one of several waves around the Busung village area. There is a sculpted right at the entrance to a deep bay, a fast left wall hugging the corner of reef on the southern headland, and an offshore bombie sitting in the middle. In small swells, the next bay south picks up powerful beachbreaks.

When It Works

Swell arrives here from south through west, and west swell is the best match. The wave is usable from 1.8 m / 6 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, so it needs real size behind it before the reef starts doing its thing.

Wind and Tide

Look for northwest offshore wind. The reef works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This one is for experts. Between the size it needs, the speed it runs at, and the live coral underneath, it is not a wave to learn on.
