Overview
The Point - Elands Bay is a left-hand point that peels over a kelp-covered rock ledge. Steep drops feed into fast, tubular walls that spin along the reef before bending into a softer sandy section at the rivermouth. The little hamlet of Eland's Bay sits on a sandy riverbank, waiting for swell to reach The Point.
When It Works
The Point draws swell from southwest through northwest, with a west swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it's moderately consistent, so the good days come in windows rather than every session. If The Point isn't lining up, there's a consistent beachbreak just to the north and the chance of some rights on a nearby reef.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind, though the point also holds up in southwest winds. It breaks across all tides, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, with kiters and longboarders sharing the water alongside the local crew.
Access
Park in town at the car park, where parking is free, then walk up to the break.
