The Point Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

The Point sits on the western end of Emerald Isle, a changeable beach break over sand that favors lefts and turns hollow once the swell picks up.

When It Works

It draws swell from east through south to southwest, and southwest (SW) swell is the best match. Because the beach faces almost southwest, it really comes alive when there is some south in the swell. The wave is usable from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and it is moderately consistent, so you can count on worthwhile windows even though it will not fire every day.

Wind and Tide

Look for a northeast (NE) offshore wind, which cleans the wave up nicely as long as there is swell pushing up from the south. It breaks across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

The Point suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet. Watch for strong currents in this area.

Access

Parking is the catch here. It is very restricted, with beach-access paths but no public lots, which is why the spot rarely gets surfed.
