The Spot is one of South Africa's famed South Coast breaks, tucked away at the hard-to-find village of Mfazazana. It's a right-hand point that breaks over boulders and sand, and it lives and dies by the sandbanks. When they cooperate, leg-burning rights peel down the point with epic tubes and a punchy inside bowl section. When they don't, you'll find a lot of close-outs instead.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southwest through southeast (SW-SE), with southwest (SW) the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, so there's a decent working window once a solid swell shows. Expect it to be moderately consistent, so it won't be on every day, but it rewards patience when the setup lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind to clean it up, though southwest winds are also OK here. The point works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The Spot suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on. Keep in mind there are no shark nets here.
Access
Getting there takes some effort, since the break hides away at the little village of Mfazazana. It's not a safe place to leave your car unattended, so plan accordingly.
