The Strait is a fluky, finicky right-hand point that breaks over a rock ledge. It rewards patience: the wave is somewhat inconsistent and only really comes alive when the North Pacific fires a solid, well-directed swell its way.
When It Works
The point draws swell from west to northwest (W-NW), and it lines up best on a northwest (NW) swell. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, so you want a decent pulse of energy before making the trip. An outgoing tide kills all but the biggest swells, so plan around a fuller, pushing tide.
Wind and Tide
Look for a south (S) offshore wind; through winter, southerlies here tend to blow offshore or side-off. The point is best on mid tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-level wave, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet when it turns on.
Access
Access is the main challenge. The better spots sit on tribal or private land, so check in at the tribal offices any time you are entering Sovereign Lands, and treat the area with plenty of respect.
