Overview
The Trough is a left-hand reef break just down from Seaford, peeling over a patchy mix of uneven reef and sand. It's one for the goofy-footers, with the opening section throwing some punch before fattening out into the channel.
When It Works
The Trough draws swell from south to southwest (S-SW), and a southwest swell is the pick of the bunch. The more southerly angles tend to suit it, though the wrap trims the sets down to around head-high. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and stays moderately consistent, on a stretch of coast that sits heavily shadowed by Kangaroo Island to the south.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind. The reef is at its best on high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
The Trough suits intermediate surfers. Expect a busy lineup when it's on, and it'll pull a fair crew whenever the swell lines up.
