Tivives is a beachbreak that closes out easily, so the waves to look for are the rights that run into the rivermouth and the Mini Valor lefts that peel off the point. It breaks over a mix of uneven reef and sand and holds both lefts and rights, though the wrapping swells favour the lefts, with the occasional right showing up at Valor.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south to southwest, and southwest is the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and the Mini Valor lefts really come alive on strong south swells, reeling down the point with faces pushing up to 10 ft. Consistency can be hit or miss, so plan around the days when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind. The beach is best on a pushing tide, working through mid and high with a rising tide the better call. The left in front of the cliffs is the exception: it comes in best at low tide, which also lets you walk back up the beach and paddle out close to the peak.
Local Tips
Tivives is a solid intermediate wave, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it works. Treat the rivermouth with real caution, as it is known for big crocodiles and sharks out by the Valor reefs.
