Troncones surf guide

Troncones is a laid-back surf spot located just south of Manzanillo, featuring a 5 km (3 mi) stretch of beach. It's known for its relaxed vibe and natural beauty, with some rock outcrops that help create sandbar peaks along the coastline. While it has its moments, the spot can be a bit moody, and it's especially the right reef at the southern end that tends to draw in the crowds when the conditions are just right.

The best time to surf here is when there's a moderate southwest swell, which is ideal for getting those waves. Troncones can handle swell sizes up to about 3 ft (0.9 m), and you'll find waves breaking over uneven reef. You'll get both left and right waves, but the right ones often steal the show. It's worth noting that the winds coming from the northeast are preferred, making for good conditions. This spot caters mostly to intermediate surfers, so keep that in mind if you're planning to paddle out.

When you’re looking to catch some waves here, it’s best to aim for low to mid-high tide. The variety of swell directions, including south and northwest, adds to the surf experience, but make sure to pay attention to the conditions, as they can change quickly. Overall, Troncones offers a unique surf experience that can be rewarding on a good day.
