Trouville is a sand-bottomed beachbreak at the Touques estuary in Normandy. It sits in a marginal stretch of coast: from Deauville through the Baie de la Seine the surf stays limited, and it takes the Cotentin Peninsula further along to really pick up Normandy's swell. Viking Surf Club members gather at the estuary to surf 'Le Phare', a right and left peak where the river pushes up the swell size. At high tide a more powerful wave breaks in front of the Aquarium.
When It Works
The bank throws both lefts and rights over sand. It draws swell from west to northwest, with northwest (NW) the best match. Trouville is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so it handles anything from small, playful days up to solid mid-size swell. Consistency is on the lower side, so it pays to catch it when the setup lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for offshore wind from the south (S) to clean things up. The break comes to life on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Trouville is a friendly spot to learn, well suited to beginners finding their feet. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's working.
